Using SCRAM CAM

Here are some basics on what you can expect when wearing a SCRAM Continuous Alcohol Monitoring bracelet.

How the SCRAM CAM Bracelet Works

The SCRAM CAM bracelet tests automatically, every 30 minutes, around the clock. You will feel a slight vibration whenever the bracelet is taking a reading. Most users report that they get used to the vibrations within the first day.

SCRAM CAM is different than breath, blood, or urine testing because it’s actually sampling your perspiration, automatically, to measure for alcohol consumption. It measures what is known as insensible perspiration, which is on our skin at all times. The anklet measures the alcohol that comes through the skin in the area around your ankle. It’s completely non-invasive and unobtrusive during your daily activities or while you sleep.

Whenever the bracelet takes a reading, it is testing several things at the same time to ensure there have been no attempts to tamper with the bracelet, obstruct testing, or remove the bracelet. In addition, you will be asked to sign an agreement at the time of installation that prohibits you from using products containing alcohol on or around the bracelet.

The SCRAM CAM Wireless Base Station

The SCRAM CAM Wireless Base Station plays an important part in your monitoring. The bracelet stores all test results until the data downloads to your base station, which will automatically transmit the data to your assigned agent. Downloads happen on a predetermined schedule, and you must be within 30 feet of the base station during this time in order for the data transmission to take place. Your base station can connect via cellular connection or through your home internet using Wi-Fi.

If your agent has allowed you to connect your base station Wi-Fi, review the instructions provided, and click the button below.
