So, You’ve Been Assigned a SCRAM CAM Bracelet. Now What?

If you have recently been assigned to wear a SCRAM Continuous Alcohol Monitoring® (SCRAM CAM®) bracelet, you may not know where to start. It’s important to understand what the SCRAM CAM device is, where to get one installed, frequently asked questions, and other important information.

SCRAM CAM: What is It and What Does It Do?

The SCRAM CAM® bracelet alcohol ankle monitor.

SCRAM CAM is a wearable alcohol monitoring device that attaches to the ankle. Unlike other common alcohol monitoring devices, such as portable breathalyzers, SCRAM CAM tests for alcohol consumption every 30 minutes, around the clock.

SCRAM CAM is different than breath, blood, or urine testing because it automatically samples insensible perspiration, which is on the skin at all times. When the bracelet takes a reading, it not only tests for alcohol, but can also sense any attempts to obstruct testing or remove the bracelet. SCRAM CAM is completely non-invasive, and most wearers find it unobtrusive during daily life.

SCRAM CAM Installation—First Steps

The first step to set up your SCRAM CAM device is to find a Service Provider. Sometimes, courts or agencies have their own staff to install and manage your SCRAM Systems monitoring. But oftentimes they will refer you to an outside company, called a Service Provider, to perform these duties.

Your court or agency may give you contact information for a specific Service Provider in your area, or you may need to find one on your own. You can use our Find a SCRAM Location search tool to locate providers in your area.

Once you find a provider, you will make your first appointment to get your bracelet installed, receive a base station, and review common questions and important information. You will also be required to sign a participation agreement that prohibits you from drinking alcohol and using products containing alcohol around the bracelet.

Frequently Asked Questions and Other Important Information

Like using anything new, you may have some questions about the SCRAM CAM device. Our Frequently Asked Questions page covers common questions that may come up before or during your monitoring—like if the bracelet makes noise, which products are allowed, and if it’s safe to wear the bracelet in certain situations. Be sure to review these questions before your bracelet is installed.

Additionally, our Health and Safety Notice has important information about general safety, medical emergencies, personal hygiene, and more.
