UK Police and BBC Trial SCRAM Continuous Alcohol Monitoring

The UK reports that 50% of the nation’s violent crime is linked to alcohol and a third of police time is spent dealing with alcohol-related issues. As the UK looks for new ways to combat this problem, the Office of the Northamptonshire Police and Crime Commissioner is launching a sobriety pilot programme using SCRAM Continuous Alcohol Monitoring. This pilot is the first of its kind to use intensive 24/7 monitoring as a “condition of caution,” and it enables police officers to sanction volunteers who are arrested for alcohol-related or nighttime economy crimes with continuous monitoring.
