St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner, and if you are planning to honor the day by wearing a bit o’ green\u00a0or hoisting a pint you’re not alone.\u00a0Surveys show that more than half of\u00a0Americans over 18\u00a0plan to actively celebrate the holiday, and for many that includes downing\u00a0an alcoholic beverage (green or otherwise).<\/p>\n

The trend of boozing it up in honor of St. Patrick\u2019s Day is a fairly modern\u00a0trend in the holiday\u2019s thousand-year history, but it is one that many people embrace.\u00a0More than 13 million pints of Guinness will be consumed across the globe on St. Patrick’s Day (up from about 5 million per day normally), and nearly a\u00a0third of\u00a0 U.S. adults plan to attend a party in a\u00a0bar or restaurant.\u00a0In many cities drinking starts in the early morning and\u00a0doesn’t peak until after\u00a08 p.m.<\/p>\n
