Running the spectrum from\u00a0serious to off-the-wall creative, these campaigns and tactics made us take&#160;notice:<\/p>\n<h3>1.\u00a0YouTube DUI&#160;confession<\/h3>\n<p>In September, Matthew Cordle posted an online video to confess to causing a drunk driving crash that killed a 61-year-old-man. Cordle said he wanted to convince others not to get behind the wheel drunk, and the video spurred the <a href=\"http:\/\/becauseisaidiwould.com\/saveyourvictim\/\">#saveyourvictim<\/a> campaign.\u00a0But some speculated that his confession was really a\u00a0ploy for a reduced&#160;sentence.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"&quot;I killed a man.&quot;\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MmpK_EshSL4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\"&#160;allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>2. Turn that beer can into a safe ride&#160;home<\/h3>\n<p>During Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, an alcohol company installed custom turnstiles in the city\u2019s subway system to allow partiers to <a href=\"http:\/\/inhabitat.com\/carnival-goers-in-brazil-exchange-empty-beer-cans-for-a-free-train-ride-home\/\" target=\"_blank\">pay for a train ride with their beer can<\/a>. The campaign encouraged people to use public transportation instead of driving home and helped keep the streets cleaner\u2014a&#160;win\/win!<\/p>\n<h3>3. Fighting drunk driving\u2014one bathroom at a&#160;time<\/h3>\n<p>London\u2019s Department for Transport used a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TADO4LG29bs\" target=\"_blank\">pub bathroom mirror to illustrate the horrors of drunk driving<\/a>. The campaign\u2019s video shows shocked loo-goers jumping away from the sink when a bloody face explodes through the mirror, simulating a pedestrian crashing into a drunk driver\u2019s&#160;windshield.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"#PubLooShocker\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YJDsH64sqNY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\"&#160;allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>4. Get 2 DUIs, lose your&#160;ride<\/h3>\n<p>Yakima, WA, started enforcing a seldom-used state law that allows law enforcement to confiscate, keep, and even sell vehicles owned by people convicted of two or more DUIs. The city developed a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dl-RmcHYP1c\" target=\"_blank\">31-second ad to<\/a>\u00a0inform residents <a href=\"http:\/\/scramsystems.com\/blog\/2013\/07\/get-2-duis-lose-your-ride-one-citys-approach-to-fighting-drunk-driving\/#.UsHQa6Pn-Ag\">if they drive drunk they may forfeit their car<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"It&#039;s no joke - if you get 2 DUI&#039;s in 7 years... you could lose your car in Yakima.\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dl-RmcHYP1c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\"&#160;allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>5. PSAs show what elves do when the kiddos head to&#160;bed<\/h3>\n<p>In December, the Newfoundland Royal Canadian Mounted Police created an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.ca\/2013\/12\/12\/newfoundland-elf-on-a-shelf_n_4435876.html\" target=\"_blank\">anti-drunk driving PSA<\/a>\u00a0starring the Elf on the Shelf. The photo series\u00a0featured a boozy\u00a0Elf getting pulled over in a Barbie car, and his subsequent trip to the local police&#160;station.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4519\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scramsystems.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/elf-shelf.jpg\" alt=\"elf-shelf\" width=\"640\" height=\"543\"&#160;\/><\/p>\n<h3>6. Breathalyzers for parking&#160;lots<\/h3>\n<p>A Belgium nightclub required patrons to <a href=\"http:\/\/scramsystems.com\/blog\/2013\/05\/can-an-alcohol-barrier-stop-drunk-driving\/\">blow into a breathalyzer before exiting the club\u2019s parking lot<\/a>. If patrons blew above the legal limit, the barrier wouldn\u2019t open. Knowing in advance that they wouldn\u2019t be able to leave the parking lot drunk, over 90% of drivers were sober enough to open the barrier on their first&#160;try.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Which of these approaches gets your vote for the most unique way to combat drunk driving?
