{"id":2464,"date":"2013-05-06T12:15:44","date_gmt":"2013-05-06T18:15:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alcoholmonitoring.com\/blog\/?p=2464"},"modified":"2016-02-18T18:15:34","modified_gmt":"2016-02-18T18:15:34","slug":"north-dakota-governor-signs-tough-dui-bill-that-prohibits-drinking-for-repeat-drunk-drivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scramsystems.com\/blog\/2013\/05\/north-dakota-governor-signs-tough-dui-bill-that-prohibits-drinking-for-repeat-drunk-drivers\/","title":{"rendered":"North Dakota Governor Signs Tough DUI Bill That Prohibits Drinking for Repeat Drunk&#160;Drivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On April&#160;29<sup>th<\/sup> North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple <a href=\"http:\/\/bismarcktribune.com\/news\/local\/govt-and-politics\/governor-dui-law-will-save-lives\/article_bd0bb0aa-b150-11e2-8275-0019bb2963f4.html\" target=\"_blank\">signed a new piece of DUI legislation<\/a> that officials say with substantially strengthen North Dakota\u2019s drunk driving&#160;laws.<\/p>\n<p>House Bill 1302, which goes into effect August 1<span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px; line-height: 20px;\">st<\/span>, \u00a0increases the fines for DUI convictions, increases jail time for second and subsequent offenses, and requires repeat DUI offenders to participate in state\u2019s the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">24\/7 Sobriety Program<\/span> for one year. \u201cThis new law is enforceable, it is a stronger deterrent, and it will help save lives,\u201d says&#160;Dalrymple.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2466\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2466\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scramsystems.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/north-dakota-new-dui-law.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2466 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scramsystems.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/north-dakota-new-dui-law.jpg\" alt=\"north dakota new dui law\" width=\"300\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2466\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sandy Hernandez, who lost two sons, ages 5 and 9, to a drunk driver, hugs North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple after he signed HB 1302 into law.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>North Dakota\u2019s highly successful 24\/7 Sobriety Program requires participants to refrain from any alcohol use. All participants are monitored for alcohol consumption using twice daily breath alcohol testing or a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alcoholmonitoring.com\/\">Continuous Alcohol Monitoring ankle bracelet<\/a>. Individuals that test positive for alcohol are immediately taken into custody to spend a day or two in&#160;jail.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For years we have been telling people that if they drink and drive, we`re going to stop them from driving. That hasn`t worked. We will now be telling repeat offenders that if you continue to drink and drive we`re going to stop you from drinking,&#8221; says North Dakota Attorney General Wayne&#160;Stenehjem.<\/p>\n<p>Do you agree that repeat DUI offenders shouldn\u2019t be able to drink, or is that too restrictive?
