This post is Part 1 of&#160;12.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In January, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/features\/vitalsigns\/bingedrinking\/\">Centers for Disease Control<\/a> reported that on average, 17% of the U.S. population engages in binge drinking at least four times a month. The average number of drinks during a binge:&#160;8.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC defines binge drinking as consuming five or more drinks in one sitting for men, or four or more for women. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scramsystems.com\/blog\/?p=1100\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">While some debate the definition of binge drinking<\/a>,&nbsp;what is significant is not just the percentage of people binge drinking, but who, how much, and how often they are&#160;drinking:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>18-34 year olds have the highest number of binge&#160;drinkers<\/li>\n<li>Individuals 65 and older binge drink most&#160;often<\/li>\n<li>Binge drinking varies according to income&#160;level<\/li>\n<li>Binge drinking is most concentrated in the Midwest, New England, DC, Alaska, and&#160;Hawaii<\/li>\n<li>Most drunk drivers binge&#160;drink<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Most notably, the CDC reports that most of the individuals who binge drink are not alcohol dependent. With the majority of drunk driving deaths being caused by those with a BAC of 0.08 or higher, understanding the complexity of the 38 million Americans who binge drink and drive impaired each year is an important perspective.
