In the past few months, prominent groups such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.appa-net.org\/eweb\/Dynamicpage.aspx?site=APPA_2&amp;webcode=IB_Resolution&amp;wps_key=1cb027b2-c221-46a8-891a-a133cff8d5de\">American Probation and Parole Association<\/a> (APPA), and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scramsystems.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/APA-Resolution.pdf\">Association of Prosecuting Attorneys<\/a> (APA) have released formal Resolutions that recognize CAM as a reliable resource to help offenders manage their sobriety, a frequent condition of parole or probation, or for participation in DWI or drug court&#160;programs.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the APPA, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nadcp.org\/sites\/default\/files\/nadcp\/NADCP%20Board%20Position%20Statement%20-%20Alcohol%20Detection%20and%20Technology.pdf\">National Association of Drug Court Professionals<\/a> (NADCP), which formally recognized CAM as a viable alternative in 2010, also agrees that an offender\u2019s compliance with orders to abstain from drinking plays a crucial part in ensuring public safety. The Federal Bureau of Investigation recently reported that there were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/about-us\/cjis\/ucr\/crime-in-the-u.s\/2011\/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011\/tables\/table-43\">924,910 DUI arrests<\/a> made in 2011 in the U.S., and with over 10,000 people a year being killed in alcohol-related crashes, CAM is a dependable technology that can help the criminal justice system achieve long-term risk&#160;reduction.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, many counties in the U.S. are facing issues of jail overcrowding. In July, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.naco.org\/legislation\/Documents\/American-County%20-Platform-and-Resolutions-2012-2013.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Association of Counties<\/a> (NACo) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scramsystems.com\/blog\/?p=1532\">recognized transdermal alcohol monitoring<\/a>, in conjunction with house arrest, as a valid alternative to incarceration that also reduces the costs associated with housing pre-trial defendants.
