Given the current political climate in this election year and the propensity for members of congress to \u201ckick the can\u201d down the road, it is encouraging to see positive steps being taken to move the Federal Transportation Reauthorizaton Bill\u00a0forward.<\/p>\n

Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman John L. Mica (R-FL) announced today that House and Senate conferees are concluding a bicameral, bipartisan agreement on a major transportation bill. The measure focuses on unprecedented reforms by cutting red tape and consolidating federal transportation programs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This is an important piece of legislation as it relates to highway safety and specifically funding of the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA). <\/a>NHTSA\u00a0is one of the many agencies that is dependent on funding from this bill to ensure that vital programs, such as impaired driving countermeasures, remain funded.<\/p>\n

It would be easy for members of Congress to do nothing and maintain the status quo until after the election. Chairman Mica and other members of Congress are doing the right thing by working toward a bipartisan compromise that will help save lives and keep impaired driving programs funded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
